Moderated by Andrew Behar, CEO of As You Sow, the webinar will feature Patrick Geddes, Aperio Group's CIO who will explore the risk impact of divesting from carbon, and Dan Apfel, Executive Director of the Responsible Endowments Coalition who will highlight the trend of students calling for divestment and college interest in responsible and sustainable investing.
| ||Andrew Behar, As You Sow CEO, has 30 years of experience as a Senior Executive and strategist in the cleantech, communications and life science sectors. Prior to joining As You Sow, Andrew founded and was CEO of a cleantech start-up developing innovative fuel cell technologies. He served as COO for a social media agency focused in the sustainability space and has been a strategic consultant in the nonprofit sector. He has founded and run start-ups in the medical device and communications areas and serves on the boards of several high-tech innovation companies.|
| ||Patrick Geddes is Aperio Group's Chief Investment Officer and a Partner. Prior to joining Aperio Group, Patrick was the Chief Financial Officer of Morningstar, Inc. Patrick also served on the company's executive committee, overseeing all strategic, policy, and internal investment decisions. Prior to being named CFO, Patrick served as Morningstar's Director of Quantitative Research. Before Morningstar, he spent five years with Amoco, now part of BP, in the U.S. and Europe providing quantitative analysis, currency hedging and corporate tax optimization. At Amoco, Patrick was part of a group that modeled the nuances of highly complex international tax structures as part of the company’s efforts to manage taxes as effectively as possible, which in the energy sector can provide enormous payoffs to the bottom line and shareholders. He has taught numerous courses in graduate-level finance at the University of California Berkeley Extension. Patrick received his MBA, with Honors, from the University of Chicago.|
| ||Dan Apfel, Executive Director of the Responsible Endowments Coalition, is an expert at supporting and implementing responsible investment strategies on campus. He works with allies in advocacy organizations, industry, and the university community, to learn about and stay on top of the newest strategies in responsible investing. Dan’s work on responsible investing has been covered in Institutional Investor Magazine, Forbes, Chronicle of Higher Education, and GOOD, among others. Prior to joining the REC Dan served as a Program Officer at the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions, where he worked with credit unions serving diverse low- and moderate-income communities around the country. He managed a coalition of 16 credit unions running free tax-preparation sites that filed over 3,500 returns for low-income people in 200 and co-administered the New York State Coalition of Community Development Financial Institutions. While living in Rochester, NY Dan also lived in and served on the boards of two student housing cooperative.|
